West-Virginia Marriage Records Search
West Virginia marriage records are not open to the public for 50 years after the event at the state level and can only be accessed by the registrants, their children, grandchildren or authorized representatives. West Virginia marriage records are also managed at the county level.
For marriage records since 1964 to the present, copies of West Virginia marriage certificates are available for purchase from both the State Vital Registration Office and the County Clerk’s Office in the county where the marriage license was issued. Marriage records prior to 1964 or recent marriage records (within the last three months) are only available directly from the County Clerk’s Office.
