Iowa Marriage Records Search
Iowa marriage records are not open to the public at the state level and can only be accessed by the registrant, immediate family members, a legal guardian or representative. At the county level, Iowa marriage records are not confidential and accessible by the public.
For marriage records prior to 1920 and since 1942 to the present, copies of Iowa marriage certificates are available for purchase directly from the County Recorders’ Office in the county where the marriage occurred. Marriage records since July 1, 1880 to the present are typically available from the State Vital Records Office.
Certified copies of Iowa marriage records are available by mail order for $20 with a check or money order made payable to the Iowa Department of Public Health, along with a photocopy of current government-issued photo ID and a completed and notarized application sent to the following address:
