Locate someone by their Social Security Number

Perhaps most importantly (as far as searching for someone is concerned) – credit records are also linked to social security numbers, which means that any credit-related business and the addresses associated with them are all tied to that SSN. From credit cards to cell phone contracts – if a person has used any form of credit, the address he used will be tied to it (and his or her SSN).

The problem is that – while SSNs are a powerful identifying number linked with a great deal of information – some of that information is not just sitting online open and available to the public. In fact, while an SSN history check is often the way that lawyers, private investigators and other legal professionals choose to go about searching for someone, many of the search services they use are not available to the public at all. While you can hire a lawyer or PI to run an SSN search for you – their services can be relatively expensive and they can usually only perform SSN searches for very specific, authorized reasons.

Fortunately, it is still possible to find people by social security number and receive all the available public record information linked to that person. Using just a name and the first three digits of an SSN, you can start a search below to get free, instant preview results. If you don’t get the results you’re looking for, you can run a People Search using the name and last known city/state for extended results.

Regardless of whether you use the SSN Search option or the People Search option, the report you’ll receive will be exactly the same. Not only will you receive up to date address information, but also current phone numbers, and everything from property to criminal records that are part of the public records system

You should be able to get everything you would expect to receive from a lawyer conducting an SSN search, but at a fraction of the price (around $10). With a money-back guarantee, you’ve got nothing to lose (and probably a lot to gain). Remember, searching for someone by using data from their social security account is one of the most powerful sources from the department of labor, and is available to you via our highly sophisticated search engines.

SSN Search FAQs

How to match a social security number with a name

Social security numbers can be matched with a name by using an FCRA approved background check or approved credit check.  Social security numbers are issued by the Social Security Administration and have become the main identifier for US taxation and other official purposes.  SSNs are used as a way of verifying identity for things like background checks, tenancy, bank loans, and credit purposes.  There are only select authorized purposes for requesting this information and they almost always require the approval of the person being researched.

How can I find someone using their Social Security number?

Finding someone using a social security number is relatively easy provided the person is still living in the United States.  Social security numbers are used for rental agreements, loans, employment, and many other official purposes that would easily help to identify where a person is located.  However, most social security number-based information tied to these searches can only be used for official purposes and may require hiring a lawyer or private investigator to conduct a social security number search of this kind.

How do you search for a person?

Searching for a person can be as easy as a Google search or as difficult as hiring a legal professional.  If time is a factor and you have an approved (usually legal based) reason for searching for someone, a lawyer will have access to the most information available.  Otherwise, it’s best to start with a Google search, followed by a social media search (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, etc.).  The more information you have about a person (full name, previous address, known acquaintances/relatives, etc.), the easier your search will be.  If you’re able to find a close friend or relative of the person you’re searching for online, try contacting them first before moving onto paid services.

Can you find bank accounts with Social Security number?

Outside of the US Federal Government, it is not possible to search for bank accounts with just a social security number.  The IRS receives information from bank accounts held by US citizens, which are linked to them using social security numbers.  Participating banks across the world are required to collect this information from US citizens and to submit the information to the IRS.  As social security numbers – and bank account numbers – are generally considered sensitive information, an individual is unlikely to be able to access this information through normal channels.  There may be legal challenges that can be made to compel an individual bank to check, but there is no blanket way to check all banks.

Are social security records public?

Social security records are not public – they are held by the Social Security office and can be retrieved from a local Social Security office or securely online using login information provided by the SSA.  These records include earnings as well as estimates for various benefits, including disability, survivors and retirement benefits that the individual and/or their family may be entitled to.

What is an SSN tracker?

An SSN tracker is a service provided by companies to protect you from identity theft.  If you are signed up for the SSN tracker service and there are threats to your identity, you will be notified and may even be eligible for stolen funds reimbursement.  Information monitored includes publication of your information on the dark web, changes in your credit, crimes committed in your name, data breaches involving companies you have purchased from in the past, home title monitoring, bank/investment accounts opened with your SSN, etc. You may also receive additional services protecting your identity when you’re online, such as a VPN account and other privacy monitors.

How do I check if my SSN is being used?

If you believe your SSN is being used by someone else, the first thing to do would be to contact the Social Security Administration so they can review their records.  If you have specific evidence of identity theft because of something that happened, the federal government provides a resource at IdentifyTheft.gov, which can provide resources for recovery.
Other types of SSN searches – such as a credit check – may reveal people and places where an SSN has been used.

Can you find someone by their social security number for free?

Most social security number searches come at a cost and can only be performed for official purposes.  The first three digits of social security numbers issued before 2011 – known as the “area” numbers – can tell you where a social security number has been issued and – as it’s estimated that 50% of people spend their lives in the state where they were born – that’s a start.  With a little more information – such as a first and last name – it’s much easier to find someone (though, again, it might not be free).
