BRB http://www.brbpub.com Access governement sources directly instead of paying an information broker.(what do you think many of them are using )Use their books or CD-ROM for your own investigations.Just about every serious investigator, and researcher use their CD -ROM and books. The CD-ROM is an excellent resource.Their easy Indexing alows you to access each and every county, state, governement office directly. It also list access methods for each-fax,phone,internet.With search fees and search criteria.Usually very minimal to zilch fees!!

If you want to contact a researcher for a specific county and have them do criminal records, civil records and Vital records for you ,There is a special network of record retrievers you can contact for specific searches, civil or criminal. When you visit www.brbpub.com they will have a link http://www.brbpub.com/prrn/members.asp to lists for every state in the U.S for The PRRN NETWORK (public record retrievers network) typically the fees will range from retriever to retriever. Anywhere from $5-$30. They will list the type of searches they do and the turnaround times as well. Before you start doing criminal record searches you should familiarize yourself with the FAIR CREDIT REPORTING ACT.http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fcra.htm

Basically if you are using the criminal record check for employment purposes (if you are hiring somebody) you will need a signed release from the future employee to be.You can not search back more than 7 years for convictions for employment purposes. If the applicant is applying for a job that pays over $75,000 a year than you can use convictions up to 10 years for employment purposes. This will basically not pertain to you since you will be providing this information for others who will be screening applicants themselves, and they will have to follow the guidelines. Remember you can go to any courthouse in the nation and look up somebody’s records(criminal or civil) this is public information, unless the courthouse has specific stipulations. The only state that I am aware of that I have come across with stipulations is New York. There may be others, but I have not come across them. New York has a family law that prohibits access to family law files(divorce ,child custody etc.) unless you are directly involved in the case.
